Gerd Knoth (born March 23, 1946 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Gerd Knoth played for the Gelsenkirchner club Erler SV 08 until 1965 . From the 1965/66 season Knoth played in the Regionalliga West at Westfalia Herne . With the Hernern he played for three years in the Regionalliga, where he scored 20 goals in 83 appearances. In his last year in Herne, the 1967/68 season, he was relegated to the third division with a penultimate place, ahead of VfB Bottrop . Knoth moved to Arminia Bielefeld and thus continued to play in the Regionalliga West. He stayed for three years, in the second year Knoth qualified with Arminia by a second place in the league for the promotion round to the Bundesliga . The promotion round was designed successfully, as the Arminia prevailed against the group opponents Karlsruher SC , SV Alsenborn , Tennis Borussia Berlin and VfL Osnabrück . Knoth was on the pitch in all eight games for Arminia. In the following two years, Knoth was a permanent member of the Bundesliga and played sixty-seven games. As an aftermath of the Bundesliga scandal from the previous season, Arminia was stripped of all points for bribery, followed by relegation from the Bundesliga. In total, Knoth was used in 130 league games for the Bielefeld team in which he scored 8 goals. Knoth left Arminia at the beginning of the following season and played the rest of the season at Fortuna Cologne . Knoth made the 1972/73 season positive with Fortuna . In the end, the second place was behind Rot-Weiss Essen and the promotion round followed. Knoth played 14 league games for Fortuna in which he scored a goal. Fortuna prevailed and rose. Knoth went and played for Union Ohligs in the Regionalliga West for a year before joining the SG Union Solingen , which merged with VfL Solingen-Wald from SC Union Ohligs in 1974 , where he ended his professional career after two years. He then played as an amateur for TSV Aufderhöhe .
