Gerd Meiser

Gerd Meiser (born November 27, 1939 ; † July 14, 2019 ) was a Saarland journalist and author in Neunkirchen .

Life

After attending school and training, Gerd Meiser worked as an industrial clerk at Neunkircher Eisenwerk AG (formerly the Stumm brothers ) before completing an internship at the Saarzeitung in Saarlouis and the Allgemeine Zeitung in Saarbrücken.

As an editor he worked for the Saarbrücker Allgemeine Zeitung, the Saarbrücker Landeszeitung and from 1971 for the Saarbrücker Zeitung . He was then local editor in Neunkirchen for 32 years, 15 of which as editor-in-chief. In 2004 he retired and devoted himself more to his literary interests.

Gerd Meiser was married to the painter Hildegard Meiser.

The author's extensive work was honored with a "Soirée for Gerd Meiser" in the Neunkirchen city library on November 27, 2019.

Journalistic work

As a local journalist, Gerd Meiser had close ties to his hometown Neunkirchen. He accompanied the decline of the ironworks and the associated structural change in the city with a large number of newspaper articles, which also resulted in books.

In 1982 he received the Konrad Adenauer Local Journalist Prize for "particularly excellent reporting".

In 1987 he was the contact person for journalists from all over the world when the GDR State Council Chairman Erich Honecker visited his homeland.
