Gerd Weber (General)

Gerd Weber (born May 21, 1933 in Neundorf) is a former major general of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic .

Life and career

As the son of a locksmith, he learned the profession of a forestry worker from 1949 to 1951 and worked as a forester until 1952. In 1952 he joined the SED .

Military career

In 1952 Gerd Weber joined the VP-Luft (forerunner organization of the later NVA Air Force ), became a student at the VP School Treuenbrietzen and in 1953 was appointed lieutenant of the VP-Luft. Because of his "arguable skills, qualifications and aptitude as an agitator of the SED" and as a distinguishing feature from other soldiers with the same family name, his fellow trainees jokingly called him "barricade weaver". The name stayed with him until his last use as major general in 1990.

From 1953 to the 1957 Weber specialist teachers at the flyer Technical School in Kamenz and 1957-1958 officer listeners at the political school of the NVA in Berlin-Treptow. From 1958 to 1961 he was employed as a propagandist in the political department of JG-9 and from 1960 to 1961 political deputy of the squadron commander. He then became a propagandist in the command of the 3rd Air Defense Division (3rd LVD). From 1961 to 1970 he was then in the political department of the command command of the 3rd LVD deputy head of department and from 1971 to 1976 commander of the social sciences section at the OHS of the LSK / LV in Kamenz. From 1976 to 1977 he was an officer auditor at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden and then until 1989 deputy head of the political administration in the LSK / LV command .

Service as a general

Colonel Weber was appointed major general on March 1, 1986 in the special position of deputy chief political administration for agitation and propaganda in the LSK / LV command . His last assignment was in the LSK / LV command from 1989 to 1990, as chairman of the Party Control Commission (PKK).
