Gerda Szepansky

Gerda Szepansky , born as Gerda Lange (born September 6, 1925 in Berlin-Mitte ; † August 3, 2004 in Berlin) was a German journalist, teacher and author.

Life

After the liberation from National Socialism , Gerda Szepansky became a teacher in West Berlin until she was dismissed from the school service due to a penalty notice for “active work in the sense of the SED ”.

In the post-war period Gerda Szepansky also worked as an actress in cabaret and independent theater groups. She headed the culture club of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship West Berlin and the Mayakovsky Gallery. She was also a member of the New Society for Literature (NGL) and was elected to its board from 1980 to 1982.

She married the former inmate of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp , Wolfgang Szepansky , whom she met at a meeting of anti-fascist teachers. They had four children together.

Gerda Szepansky received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1996 .

Szepansky is buried in the Mariendorf II cemetery in Berlin.
