Gerhard Deimling

Gerhard Deimling (born April 23, 1934 in Wuppertal ; † April 8, 2017 there ) was a German legal and criminal sociologist .

Career

Deimling received his doctorate in social sciences and until his retirement was professor of sociology and social education in the educational and social sciences department at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , of which he was a member of the founding senate from 1972 to 1983. At the same time, he was also the founding vice-rector for research and young scientists.

In the course of his teaching activities, he was visiting professor at the University of Łódź from 1988 to 1992 and at the University of Leipzig in 1991 . In Leipzig he was a member of the founding commission of the Faculty of Education from 1991 to 1994. His long-term research dealt primarily with the history of sociology and the history of social and criminal pedagogy, on which he published numerous publications. Most recently, he conducted research on gerontology and the sociology of old age .

From 1989 until his retirement he headed the Institute for Social Gerontology and Gerontology ISOGAM at the University of Wuppertal. Since 1968 he has been the head of a district for voluntary social welfare in the city of Wuppertal .
