Gerhard Ficker

Gerhard Ficker (born February 8, 1865 in Thonberg , † April 4, 1934 in Kiel ) was a German Protestant theologian and church historian .

Life

Ficker was a son of Pastor Julius Gustav Ficker (1826–1899); his older brother Johannes also became a theology professor, the younger brother Martin professor of hygiene and bacteriology . Gerhard Ficker studied art history, cultural history and theology in Leipzig from 1884 and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. After a study trip to Vienna and Rome financed by the German Archaeological Institute , he first became an assistant chaplain and then a pastor in Sohland on the Spree in 1892 . In 1893 he obtained his theological license in Halle an der Saale and has taught there as a private lecturer ever since. In 1902 he was appointed titular professor for church history, in 1903 associate professor . From 1906 to 1926 he was a full professor for church history in Kiel . There he officiated as rector of the university in 1914/15 and twice as dean of the theological faculty.
