Gerhard Härle (born September 23, 1949 in Hof an der Saale ) is Professor of German Language and Literature and its Didactics . He is Vice-Rector for Studies, Teaching and Media Development at the Heidelberg University of Education . His focus is on literary studies , literary theory and literary didactics . Härle is also a lecturer at the German National Academic Foundation and a lecturer at the Ruth Cohn Institute .

Life

Gerhard Härle was born on September 23, 1949 in Hof an der Saale. He studied theology and philosophy in Freiburg im Breisgau and Paris, as well as German, pedagogy and philosophy in Munich and Heidelberg. Härle completed his studies in 1985 with a master's thesis on the subject of homosexuality in Thomas Mann's novel The Magic Mountain . He then worked as a freelance journalist and radio play author.

In the following years he became a research assistant at the Department of Modern Literature at the Philipps University of Marburg , where he received his doctorate in 1988 with a thesis on homosexuality in the work of Klaus and Thomas Mann . From 1987 to 1995 Härle worked at the University of Siegen , where together with Wolfgang Popp he set up the only research focus on “Homosexuality and literature” in Europe. In 1994 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the linguistic and cultural-historical phenomenon of “ideas of purity” Reformation and Enlightenment and got the license to teach modern German literature and general literature. His most important academic teachers include Gert Mattenklott and Wolfgang Popp.

Härle has been a professor at the Heidelberg University of Education since 1995, and from 2000 to 2009 he was Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies. He leads various research projects (including on "literary class discussion" and "literary education") and is authorized to teach topic-centered interaction .

Härle has been Vice-Rector for Studies, Teaching and Media Development at the Heidelberg University of Education since 2009 . In 2017 he received honorary citizenship from the university .
