Gerhard Hoecke

Gerhard Hoecke (born June 18, 1931 in Erfurt ; † March 26, 2007 in Magdeburg ) was a German sports scientist , university professor and swimming sports official .

Life

After attending school, which lasted until 1949, Hoecke worked at the Jena Funkwerk. In 1950 he began studying at the Erfurt Institute for Teacher Education, shortly afterwards he studied physics for two semesters at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena before switching to physical education and educational science. In 1954 he passed the state examination. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Physical Education at the University of Jena. In 1958 he became a lecturer for swimming, after having been in charge of the swimming department on short notice in 1956.

Hoecke was made head of the Theory and Practice of Sports Department. He wrote his doctoral thesis, which was accepted in 1966, on the subject of "Investigations into the organization and methodology of beginners' swimming lessons in summer courses". Hoecke worked in the Central Curriculum Commission of the German Democratic Republic for the new version of the sports teacher training in the context of the third university reform.

Under his direction, the textbook "Theory and School Methodical Problems of Swimming" was published in the 1970s. From 1975 to 1985 Hoecke was director of the sports science section at the Friedrich Schiller University, and in 1980 he completed his habilitation (subject: “Training science aspects in sports teacher studies: theoretical studies and experimental investigations on selected problems in the planning, design and control of sports Learning and practice process ”) and was then appointed as an adjunct professor. In 1994 he retired.

At the official level, Hoecke was involved nationally and internationally, he was a member of the Technical Committee of the European Swimming League (LEN) and the World Swimming Federation (FINA) and took part as a referee in the Summer Olympics in 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988 and 1992. After the end of the GDR, Hoecke was the founding president of the Thuringian Swimming Association and from 1991 vice-president of the German Swimming Association (DSV). The fact that he took on a high office at DSV was criticized by West German sports policy.
