Gerhard Hoffmann (Arabist)

Gerhard Hoffmann (born October 28, 1941 in Leipzig ) is a German Arabist and historian.

Gerhard Hoffmann received his doctorate in February 1973 at the Section for African and Middle Eastern Studies at the Karl Marx University Leipzig (KMU) with a thesis on the subject of the commune or state bureaucracy? On the political role of the population of Syrian cities in the 10th to 12th centuries . The reviewers were Ernst Werner , Horst Gericke and Walter Markov . The doctorate B took place in May 1986 with Lothar Rathmann and Ernst Werner with the thesis The military in the Arab-Islamic feudal society .
