Gerhard Hofmann (journalist)

Gerhard Hofmann (born August 3, 1948 in Miltenberg am Main , Bavaria ) is a German television journalist, book author and networker in the field of renewable energies . He was from 1989 to 1993 foreign correspondent of the ARD for South America in Buenos Aires . From 1994 to 1999 he headed the RTL capital city studio in Bonn , and until 2008 he was chief correspondent and head of the politics department for RTL and n-tv in Berlin .

Life

Growing up in Miltenberg am Main, Gerhard Hofmann went to Munich after graduating from high school, where he studied history and politics and received his doctorate in 1975. Hofmann attended the German School of Journalism in Munich while still studying and doing his doctorate .

Journalistic activity

Since 1971 Gerhard Hofmann has worked at Bayerischer Rundfunk as a television editor and presenter in the domestic and foreign policy departments. In 1982 he moved to the SWF in Mainz, where he became department head at 'ARD-aktuell'. In 1989 Hofmann went to Buenos Aires as a correspondent for ARD, from where he reported from South America as a television reporter. After four years in Buenos Aires, he returned to Germany in 1993, initially to Baden-Baden as chief television reporter for SWF. In 1994 Hofmann switched to the private broadcaster RTL and became head of the Bonn Capital Studio. When the federal government moved to Berlin in 1999, Hofmann moved to the RTL studio on the Spree and became the chief political correspondent for RTL and later also n-tv. In 2007 he published his book "The Conspiracy of the Journaille zu Berlin - A Political Diary", in which he illuminates the reasons for the decline of the red-green government under Gerhard Schröder . Hofmann ended his journalistic work at the beginning of 2008.

Consultancy and networking on renewable energies

In 2008, Gerhard Hofmann first turned to the solar industry, temporarily headed the EUREF Institute and then set up an independent consulting agency. With his agency, Hofmann advised Dii GmbH ( Desertec Industrial Initiative) and created an information portal on new energy technologies together with the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr (MPI CEC) from 2010 to 2020 . [1] As a freelance author, he publishes texts on energy and sustainability issues and other political topics.

Activities and Societies

Gerhard Hofmann is a member of the research group "Ethical-Ecological Rating" at the Global Ethic Institute of the University of Tübingen and member of the board of the association "Show your face! For a cosmopolitan Germany". Since his time in South America, he and his wife have been running the Padre Miguel Relief Fund, an association to support a pastor in Buenos Aires.

Private

Gerhard Hofmann has been married since 1981 and has two daughters. He has lived in Berlin since 1999.
