Gerhard Karl Lieb

Gerhard Karl Lieb (born September 28, 1960 in Graz ) is Professor of Geography . He works at the Institute for Geography and Spatial Research at the University of Graz .

Life

Gerhard Karl Lieb studied geography and economics and classical philology (Latin) at the University of Graz from 1978 to 1984. He has been working at the Geography Institute partly since 1983 and full-time since 1985. Since his habilitation in 1996 he has been an associate professor.

Act

Lieb works in particular on geomorphology , glaciology and permafrost in the Alps, as well as the regional geography of Central and Southeastern Europe , and is active in the subject didactics of geography and economics , and in environmental didactics .

In addition to scientific publications, he is the author or co-author of numerous landscape guides and school books . In 1991 he also developed the landscape structure of Styria that is common today for the Styrian regional government . In addition, he has been a member of the glacier measurement service of the Austrian Alpine Club since 1985 , has headed it since 2016 (together with Andreas Kellerer-Pirklbauer), and is currently a supervisor for Austria's most famous glacier, the Pasterze am Großglockner.
