Gerhard Kubetschek (born December 6, 1909 in Breslau ; † March 4, 1976 in Wolfenbüttel ) was an entrepreneur and founder of the audio furniture manufacturer Kuba-Imperial .

The initially small craft business called Kuba was founded in 1948. The products, also known as music chests, were combinations of radio receivers , record players and loudspeakers in a stylish wooden housing, which at the time also represented a status symbol as furnishings . In the more expensive models, a tape recorder and / or ( black and white ) television set was also integrated.

His company grew rapidly during the economic miracle and soon employed over 100 people.

At first he limited himself to the production of audio furniture housings. With the takeover of the bankrupt radio manufacturer Continental Rundfunk GmbH in Osterode am Harz , Kubetschek acquired the necessary know-how for the development and manufacture of consumer electronics . In the 1960s, he employed more than 4,000 people in several locations in Wolfenbüttel, Braunschweig and Osterode / Harz. The, now called "Imperial Broadcasting and TV GmbH" company achieved a turnover of over 220 million DM. In July 1966 he sold his company for 80 million DM to the American group General Electric and took a few months a post as Managing Director and later as Board member in his former company.

After retiring from the company and from the entertainment electronics industry, Kubetschek devoted himself to his hobbies such as B. aerobatics and enjoyed his free time on a yacht in the Mediterranean. In the meantime he has doubled his fortune of 80 million DM. Kubetschek was known for his weakness for expensive cars.

Kubetschek was married several times and had several children.

In 2009, Gerhard-Kubetschek-Strasse in Wolfenbüttel was named after him.
