Gerhard Lindemann (theologian)

Gerhard Lindemann (born June 26, 1963 in Uelzen ; † May 2020 in Dresden ) was a German theologian and church historian with a research focus on church history of the 19th and 20th centuries, in particular the church in the dictatorships in Germany and East Central Europe, church and anti-Semitism, church history Saxony and Ecumenical Theology . From 2009 until his death he was an adjunct professor for historical theology at the Institute for Protestant Theology at the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

Lindemann came from a Protestant rectory in Lower Saxony . From 1982 to 1989 he studied Protestant theology at the Georg August University of Göttingen and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg , followed by a doctoral degree from 1990 to 1991 at the Church University of Berlin . It was there that he was employed as a research assistant from 1991 to 1992 , before activities as a research assistant or employee at the theological faculty of Heidelberg's Ruprecht-Karls-Universität followed from 1992 to 2003 . In 1997 he received his doctorate in Heidelberg with a dissertation on the subject of "Typically Jewish": the position of the Ev.-Luth. Regional church of Hanover on anti-Judaism, anti-Semitism and anti-Semitism 1919–1949 .

From 2003 Lindemann worked at the Technical University of Dresden . Initially until 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism , after his habilitation (2004) on the history of the Evangelical Alliance from 1846 to 1879 as a lecturer in church history at the Institute for Evangelical Theology. In 2009 he worked again at the Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism and in the same year became an adjunct professor for historical theology at the Institute for Protestant Theology. From 2010 he was also a research assistant at the institute.

In May 2020, Lindemann died suddenly and unexpectedly, according to the TU Dresden.
