Gerhard Pongracz

Gerhard Pongracz (born March 7, 1958 in Oberwart ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and surveying technician. From 1996 to 2015 he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

education and profession

Pongracz attended elementary school in Oberwart and moved to the lower grades in school Oberschuetzen to the HTL Mödling , where he three classes of the department engineering completed. He then began training as a surveying technician in Vienna , completed his military service in 1979 and passed the technical examination in Graz in 1982 after five years of practical experience . Since 1975 Pongracz has been working in a surveying office in Oberwart, where he is the head of the office.

politics

Pongracz has been a member of the SPÖ since 1987 and has been chairman of the area since 1988. In 1990 he was appointed city party chairman of the SPÖ Oberwart. In 1987 Pongracz was elected to the district committee and in 1990 to the district board. He has been a city councilor in Oberwart since 1992 and has been deputy mayor of the municipality since 1997. In 2002 he was finally elected mayor of the municipality. He held this office until the 2012 local council election , in which he was defeated by the challenger Georg Rosner (ÖVP) in a runoff election.

Pongracz was elected to the state parliament in 1996 and sworn in as a member of parliament on June 27, 1996. He was area spokesman for housing subsidies, building matters and spatial planning in the SPÖ state parliament club. He announced that he would no longer run for the 2015 state elections in Burgenland .
