Gerhard Schröder (association official)

Gerhard Schröder (born March 7, 1914 in Braunsberg , East Prussia , † March 9, 2010 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was a German functionary .

Life

Gerhard Schröder was born shortly before the outbreak of the First World War in Braunsberg, East Prussia, the son of a cashier and grew up in Elbing . After graduating from high school, Schröder embarked on an officer career in the Wehrmacht. In the Second World War he was initially an anti-aircraft officer, later a battery chief, department commander and general staff officer. After being a prisoner of war, he lived with his wife in their hometown of Boppard and initially worked as an agricultural laborer. He later became a senior judicial officer and councilor in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Justice.

Gerhard Schröder has been involved in the German Civil Service Association (DBB) since 1952 . In 1961 he became managing director of the regional association of the DBB. In 1968 he became the federal chairman of the senior citizens' association of retirement officials, pensioners and survivors (BRH) . He was the founder and long-time editor of the retired Aktiv magazine , with whom he remained connected as an author ("gs") until he was 89.

Since his retirement in 1981 he was the honorary chairman of the Association of Retirees, Pensioners and Survivors. In 1994, in addition to numerous works, he published the book "Alte, Wehr sich!"

Schröder was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class ; he was the bearer of the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany .
