Gerhard Senft

Gerhard Senft (born July 26, 1956 in Vienna ) is an Austrian economist and professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

Live and act

Senft trained as an engineer in the field of mechanical engineering from 1971 to 1976 . This was followed by professional activities in industrial plant construction for Mannesmann AG and Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, among others . He then studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics from 1982 to 1989 . His diploma thesis and his dissertation were awarded prizes by the Chamber for Workers and Employees . The doctorate "rerum socialium oeconomicarumque" took place in 1989.

Since 1988 he has been an assistant at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, first at the Institute for Economic Theory and Policy, since 1989 at the Institute for Economic and Social History in May 1989. There he completed his habilitation in 2001 in the field of economic and social history . He was then appointed professor. His research focuses on the history of dogmas of political economy, the history of social movements, the role of time, work and money in the modernization process, technological development and socialization, economic policy in a historical dimension and research on fascism.

From 1999 to 2010, Gerhard Senft and Werner Clement carried out the research project “Growth and Employment in Europe: Sustainability and Competitiveness” at the Institute for Economic Policy and Industrial Organization.

In June 2001, Senft was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize for the Faculty of Economics. In addition to his university activities, Senft works as a reviewer for the Austrian Academy of Sciences , the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic , the Austrian National Bank and the Thuringian State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology in Erfurt .

Gerhard Senft is an active member of the Pierre Ramus Society and publishes the collected works of Pierre Ramus in eight volumes on its behalf (the first was published in 2017).
