Gerhard Waldherr

Gerhard Michael Waldherr (born September 6, 1960 in Bad Tölz ) is a German author , reporter and publicist .

education and profession

After studying business administration, Gerhard Waldherr began a traineeship at a local edition of Münchner Merkur , which he finished in 1987 in the sports department of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . After six years as SZ editor and generalist, in which he repeatedly won the 1st prize of the Association of German Sports Journalists , he moved to Stern in 1993.

In 1996 Waldherr went to New York as a freelance correspondent and book author. The print publications he supplied from the USA included a. Die Zeit, Geo, Spiegel special, Stern, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Merian, Die Welt, Vogue, Brigitte, GQ, Playboy, brand eins and Greenpeace Magazin. A selection of the texts from this period appeared in 2002 in the book Elvis is dead .

After his return to Germany, Waldherr worked for two years as a freelance reporter on all continents, mainly in Asia.

In 2006 he became chief reporter for the business magazine brand eins , for which he was initially mostly abroad, later mainly in Germany. Reports from this period appeared in the report books Bruttoglobaltournee (2011) and Deutschkunde (2017).

Waldherr's brand eins texts were nominated for the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize and the German Reporter Prize and were awarded first prize by the Association of German Sports Journalists.

In 2012 he received this award for a text in Die Welt for the fifth time.

Since 2015 Gerhard Waldherr has been working mainly as an author and consultant in the corporate publishing sector and writes books.

Sports

From 1980 to 1985 Gerhard Waldherr played in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey for the clubs EC Bad Tölz and TuS Geretsried. In 148 games he scored 25 goals.
