Gerhard Warmo
Gerhard Warmo (born February 20, 1920 ) is a German former football player. He played first division football from 1949 to 1951 in Babelsberg and Dresden .
Athletic career
After the end of the Second World War , football was played again in the Babelsberg sports group from 1946. Their first success was the Brandenburg soccer championship in 1948 . In the 0-1 lost final against SG Cottbus Ost, the 28-year-old Gerhard Warmo was the central midfielder. In 1949 the Babelsberg team, also with Warmo, won the national championship title with a 2-1 victory over BSG Franz Mehring Marga . Both as a runner-up and as a champion, SG Babelsberg qualified for the Eastern Zone Championships in 1948 and 1949 , where the Babelsbergers were eliminated after their first game.
For the 1949/50 season, the German Sports Committee's football league , or DS league for short , started in the East Zone as the new national top-class football . Among the 14 participating teams, the SG Babelsberg had also qualified as Brandenburg champions, but now entered the Märkische Volksstimme company sports association (BSG) . Warmo, who is now 29, was still part of the team. With his 23 appearances in 26 league games, he became a regular player and was regularly called up as a midfielder.
At the beginning of the 1950/51 season he moved to the sports community of the German People's Police Dresden , which had previously played in the 6th division of the Dresden City League. For political reasons it was incorporated into the GDR Oberliga (previously DS League) and was mainly reinforced by players from other VP communities. Warmo was one of the few civilians who joined SG VP Dresden. In the first half of the season he was initially part of the team and was used as a midfielder eight times by the tenth league matchday. After that he was only called up sporadically in another five point games between the 16th and 31st matchday.
After his 36 league games from 1949 to 1951, Gerhard Warmo ended his career as a professional footballer.
