Gerhard von Attendorn
Gerhard von Attendorn (* around 1340; † around 1396) was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
Life
Gerhard von Attendorn came from a family who had been able to advise in Lübeck since the last quarter of the 13th century with the councilor Volmar von Attendorn and came from the Sauerland Hanseatic city of Attendorn . His father was Councilor Eberhard von Attendorn, who died in 1349 on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land . Gerhard von Attendorn had been a member of the Lübeck council since at least 1367 and distinguished himself as councilor both as a troop leader and as a diplomat for the city. As a military leader, he commanded the troops against the Danish King Waldemar IV ("Atterdåg") in the Second Waldemark War in 1368 . Also under his command were the siege of Dannenberg Castle in the Göhrde in 1377 and the capture of Wehningen Castle in the Neuhaus district . He traveled as the city's envoy
- 1370 to Norway to live with King Håkon VI. to agree a truce
- 1372 for negotiations with the Swedish King Magnus II and Håkon
- 1385 to Count Adolf VII of Holstein-Kiel
- 1393 for negotiations between King Albrecht of Sweden and Queen Margaret I of Denmark and in another mission also in the year
- 1393 to Falsterbo and Skåne for negotiations with Queen Margarethe and Duke Johann II of Mecklenburg-Stargard.
On the day trips he represented the city of Lübeck at the Hanseatic Days 1367–75 in Cologne, Lübeck, Rostock and Stralsund.
As an arbitrator, he mediated internal disputes in the city council of Stade in 1376, in 1385 in the Baltic States between the Dorpat monastery and the Swedish governor of Finland, and in 1391 between the Teutonic Order and the Archdiocese of Riga.
In 1372 his cousin, councilor Gottschalk von Attendorn, pledged the village of Dassow with its farm and mill and his house in Lübeck because of a loan debt of 2,000 marks. Gerhard von Attendorn himself owned a share in Gut Roggenhorst. He lived in the house at Mengstrasse 6 in Lübeck and was a member of the circle society .
