Gerhard von Rosen

Baron Gerhard Paul Rosen (* October 9, 1856 greg. In Wesenberg in Estonia ; † 23. January 1927 in Berlin light field ) was a Baltic German landscape painter and university professor.

Life

Von Rosen came from a noble family . He first attended the Humbert School and then studied from 1873 to 1878 at the Academy in Saint Petersburg . At first he took a major in architecture, but then switched to painting. He did his compulsory service in the military and was a student of the German-Baltic landscape painter Eugen Dücker at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1883 to 1886 . From 1886 to 1890 he was active as an artist in Saint Petersburg. In 1891 Rosen returned to Riga and became a teacher at the drawing school founded by Miss Elise [Elisabeth] von Jung-Stilling in 1873, of which he was director from 1904 to 1906. From 1896 to 1901 he worked as a deputy drawing teacher at the Riga Polytechnic . From 1901 he worked there as a regular lecturer and was professor of drawing from 1911 to 1919. From 1906 to 1909 he was director of the municipal art school. In 1920 he moved to Germany, where he worked in Pomerania and Berlin. His pictures are in the collections of the museums in Riga, Tartu and Düsseldorf.
