Germán Jaramillo
Germán Jaramillo (* 1952 in Manizales , Caldas ) is a Colombian actor and director.
Life
Jaramillo founded the Teatro Libre in Bogotá in May 1973 with Ricardo Camacho , Germán Moure and others . Emerging from a free student theater of the Universidad de Los Andes and other artist groups close to the Maoist party Movimiento Obrero Independiente y Revolucionario (MOIR), the Teatro Libre developed into the most important theater group in Colombia. The repertoire included Peter Weiss , Bertolt Brecht , Friedrich Dürrenmatt , Jean-Paul Sartre , John Millington Synge , Athol Fugard and Harold Pinter , but also contemporary Colombian authors such as Jairo Aníbal Niño , Sebastián Ospina , Jorge Plata , Eduardo Camacho and Piedad Bonnett .
Jaramillo has worked as an actor and director in over 40 productions of the theater and has won several awards as the best Colombian theater actor of the year. One of his most important roles was the leading role in La agonía del difunto ( The agony of a blissfully fallen asleep ) by Esteban Navajas Cortes , which he has played more than 3000 times since 1976. He also teaches at the Theater School of the Teatro Libre ( Escuela de Formación de Actores ), founded in 1988 .
Jaramillo, who always refused to accept television roles, played the leading role in Barbet Schroeder's film La Virgen de los Sicarios based on the novel by Fernando Vallejo in 2000 . The film was shown in competition at the Venice International Film Festival in 2000 , and the role of the writer Fernando, who returns to his hometown Medellín after many years abroad and is confronted by his adolescent lovers with the now everyday violence of drug gangs, made Jaramillo internationally known.
In August 2001 he founded the ID Studio Theater with Ramiro Sandoval in New York .
