Jairo Aníbal Niño

Jairo Aníbal Niño (born September 5, 1941 in Moniquirá , Boyacá , Colombia ; † August 30, 2010 in Bogotá ) was a Colombian children's book author and painter .

biography

Niño, who had been director of the Colombian National Library full-time since 1988 , began his literary work after completing his studies and has published more than 40 books over the years. He made his debut in 1968 with El baile de los arzobispos , which was followed in 1969 by Las bodas de lata . Sometimes he used the pseudonym Amadeo Zoro.

His most important works include the poems for children La alegría de querer (1986), Safari en el rostro , Razgo, Indo y Saz (1991) and Preguntario (1998), the fairy tale books Puro Pueblo (1977), Zoro (1977), Toda la vida (1979), De las alas caracoli and Dalia y Zazir .

He also wrote scripts for the telenovela about the Bandolero Efraín González and for El manantial de las fieras .

For his literary works, which have been translated into English , French , German , Portuguese , Slovak and Chinese , he has received several awards and, in addition to the Premio Nacional de Literatura Enka 1977, also received the Mexican Premio Iberoamericano Chamán in 1990 .

In addition to his writing activities, Niño was also active as a painter in the La Mancha artist group and in the theater and worked with the actor and director Germán Jaramillo .

Jairo Aníbal Niño died at the age of 68.
