Germain Vaillant de Guelis

Germain Vaillant de Guélis , Latin Germanus Valens Guellius (* 1516 or 1517 ; † 1587 ) was a French jurist , Catholic clergyman , Bishop of Orléans and classical philologist.

Vaillant de Guélis was chaplain of Caterina de 'Medici , abbot of Paimpont , conseiller clerc at the Parliament of Paris , president of the fifth chambre des enquêtes from 1567 and bishop of Orléans from 1585 to 1587 . Joseph Justus Scaliger , Pierre de Ronsard and Jean Dorat were among his friends. He is best known as a Virgil interpreter (usually simply called Germanus as such ). The modern declaration of yellowing begins with his comment .
