gms - german medical science is a portal that has existed since 2003 for the publication of electronic specialist journals from various medical fields. Scientific articles are peer-reviewed before publication . In addition, abstracts from scientific conferences and annual meetings as well as research reports are published. The languages ​​of publication are English and German.

gms is open to new publication projects.

Licensing of the publications

Using a Creative Commons license ensures that contributions published in gms are freely available in accordance with the Open Access approach and that the rights of use remain with the authors.

Project partner and distribution of tasks

The gms portal emerged from a joint project of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies ( AWMF ), the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information ( DIMDI ) and the German Central Library for Medicine ( ZB MED ). The tasks in the project are currently distributed as follows:

  • The AWMF and its 162 professional societies with around 160,000 members provide the editors (editors, co-editors, members of the editorial boards), the Scientific Committee and the reviewers for the peer review process.
  • DIMDI provides the technical infrastructure and takes care of the implementation and operation of the platform as well as the archiving of the publications.
  • ZB MED is responsible for project management, marketing, organizational support for the editorial workflow and the development of the articles.

German Medical Science GMS gGmbH was founded for the commercial handling of business processes.
