TV club

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TV club is a public series of events, the concept of which is to give joint television an event character. The club shows live TV events, DVDs as well as favorite films and series.

The TV club was founded in 2008 by director and producer Jörg Strombach in Berlin. The founding members, who also act as hosts or moderators, include Roberto Cappelluti , Bürger Lars Dietrich , Oliver Kalkofe , Thomas Nicolai , Bastian Pastewka , Oliver Rohrbeck , Tobias Schlegl , Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre and Oliver Welke .

The events, which take place every two weeks, want to create an atmosphere that is reminiscent of the time when family and friends gathered in front of the television to watch specific programs - as a community experience and without switching between channels. Jörg Strombach on March 9, 2009 in an interview with Deutschlandradio Kultur: “We are looking for the perfect evening TV. For us at the moment it means watching TV in a smaller group. "

The main building of the television club was initially a building restored to an event space on the site of the former Schultheiss brewery in Berlin-Kreuzberg, then from 2010 the green salon of the Volksbühne in Berlin-Mitte. The events have been taking place in a video library in Berlin-Friedrichshain since 2013. In addition, the TV club is also designed as a touring concept and tested as such in spring 2009 with events in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich.

Differences to public viewing

The screenings of the television club take place in the presence of the main actors or voice actors of the films presented and are presented by changing moderators from the film and television environment. The performers and moderators present can use the microphone to comment on what is happening on the screen, influence it directly using the remote control and respond to audience reactions. The financial feasibility is made possible by the free use of the founding members and sponsors. Instead of a large screen as in public viewing , several flat screen televisions are used for projection, and instead of row seating, the halls are equipped with beanbags. The Berliner Tagesspiegel wrote on March 19, 2009: "[...] the makers of the TV club don't just turn on their box, they celebrate television: [...] Then feature films are watched. Or series. Gummy bears and hot dogs are Included in the admission fee, also the neck massage. Comedian Oliver Kalkofe is there every time. Because he likes to watch TV [...] and because his neck is often tense.
