Gerold Betschart

Gerold Betschart (born December 18, 1941 ) was a judge in the second public law department at the Swiss Federal Supreme Court from 1990 to 2006 .

Life

Gerold Betschart was president of the district court in Uster and from 1982 to 1989 a CVP member of the local parliament. Before settling for the jurisprudence decided he studied philosophy for two years at a private mission seminar. Finally he moved to the University of Zurich , where he completed a law degree.

After completing his dissertation and assisting Professor Max Keller, Betschart worked as an auditor and trainee at the District Court of Winterthur and as a secretary at the Second Civil Chamber of the Zurich Higher Court . He also served as a substitute judge at the higher court.

The Federal Assembly elected the lawyer and doctor of law as federal judge on March 21, 1990. His community of Uster gave him a warm welcome at the time, during which the mayor, Hans Thalmann, described him as a "man with a clear head, but also with a heart and backbone". Gerold Betschart is the second Ustermer in the federal authorities; the first was BGB National Councilor Ernst Stiefel , who was a member of the council from 1943 until his death in 1947.
