Gerold Meraner

Gerold Meraner (born March 9, 1940 in Eppan ) is a South Tyrolean politician.

Meraner studied law at the Universities of Innsbruck , Padua and Urbino . During this time he was involved in the South Tyrolean student body . The co-founder and first president of the South Tyrolean petrol station association later worked as a self-employed textile merchant.

In 1983 Meraner was able to win a mandate for the South Tyrolean state parliament for the Party of Independents (PDU) and thus at the same time for the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol . In 1987 the PDU was converted into the Freedom Party of South Tyrol (FPS), for which he again successfully ran in the state elections in 1988. In 1989 the FPS became part of the Union for South Tyrol (UfS). In 1991 Meraner withdrew from the UfS and ended its last legislative period until 1993 as the only member of the faction of the independents .
