Gerold Prauss

Gerold Prauss (born May 25, 1936 in Troppau (Opava) , Czechoslovakia ) is a German philosopher and representative of a modern transcendental philosophy .

Life

Gerold Prauss studied philosophy, German, history and classical philology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1957 to 1963 and graduated with a state examination in 1963. The doctoral studies began in Göttingen in 1963 and 1964 and the doctorate was completed in Bonn in 1965 with the thesis Plato and Logical Eleatism , in which he shows that Plato does not yet reflect the relationship between things and properties. After postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford and a visiting professor of philosophy at the University of Yale ( USA ), he completed his habilitation in 1970 with the book Appearance in Kant. A problem of the “Critique of Pure Reason” .

After a position as a lecturer and substitute for a professorship, Gerold Prauss taught as a professor of philosophy from 1976 to 1980 at the University of Cologne , from 1980 to 1984 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and then from 1984 until his retirement in 2001 at the Albert-Ludwigs- University of Freiburg . He publishes on the philosophy of antiquity, modern times and the present with a focus on epistemology and action theory, ontology, mind-body problems and is considered a proven expert on Kant's philosophy .
