Gerry Leonard

Gerry Leonard (* around 1962 in Dublin ) is an Irish studio guitarist.

Leonard worked in a Dublin recording studio (where he recorded a demo tape of sixteen-year-old Sinéad O'Connor ) and then studied classical guitar for five years. In 1989 he went to Copenhagen , where he founded the band Hinterland with keyboardist and bassist Donal Coghlan . The band recorded an album ( Kissing the Roof of Heaven ) and toured Ireland, Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland.

Leonard then went to New York City , where he a. a. recorded with David Bowie , Duncan Sheik , Suzanne Vega , Laurie Anderson , Jonatha Brooke , Cyndi Lauper , Donna Lewis , Sophie B. Hawkins and Chris Botti .

From 1996 to 1998 he worked on his first solo project Spooky Ghost . He also appeared in a trio with Jay Bellerose and Paul Bryan . In 2002 his second album The Light Machine was released . In 2006 he worked on albums with Irish singer-songwriter Susan McKeown and Pamela Sue Mann .

In the 2010s, Leonard toured often with Suzanne Vega . He produced her 2014 album Tale from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles and her album Lover, Beloved: Songs From An Evening With Carson McCullers , released in October 2016 .
