Gersdorf is a part of the municipality Haselbachtal in the Saxon district of Bautzen .
Geography and traffic
The place is located around seven kilometers southwest of the city of Kamenz and around 35 kilometers northeast of the state capital Dresden . The place is located in western Upper Lusatia in the West Lusatian hills and mountains . The highest mountain is the Brandhübel at 384 meters and the valley is crossed by the Haselbach.
From the Bischheim-Gersdorf train station within the municipality, Dresden can be reached in around 45 minutes by regional train.
history
The districts of Gersdorf and Möhrsdorf are classic Waldhufendörfer and are first mentioned in documents in 1225 (Gersdorf) and 1264 (Möhrsdorf). The two places have belonged together since February 14, 1958. Gersdorf has been part of the Haselbachtal community since 2001.
The mothers of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (in the rectory) and the sculptor Ernst Rietschel were born in Gersdorf . There are memorial plaques for both of them on their birth houses.
Sports
The largest club is the TuS 1890 Gersdorf-Möhrsdorf , with the departments table tennis , chess, gymnastics, handball and volleyball.
