Gert Golde

Gert Golde (born June 20, 1937 in Dresden ) is a German filmmaker. He worked for DEFA for 30 years in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and was its last general director in 1989/90.

Life

Golde, the son of a saleswoman and an electrician, graduated from high school in 1955 and began studying at the German Academy for Film Art in Potsdam-Babelsberg , which he completed in 1959 with a degree in film production with a degree in film economics. In the same year he first went to DEFA as an intern and was hired as a production manager in the studio for feature films.

In 1965 Golde joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1966 he was promoted to chief economist and in January 1968 to director of economics at DEFA. In 1970/71 he completed a special course for senior cadres at the Central Committee of the SED . In 1971 he became director of production at DEFA and was therefore responsible for all of the studio's cinema and television films. He stayed in this position until 1989. From 1977 he was also the first deputy to the general manager.

On September 1, 1989, Golde, succeeding Hans Dieter Mäde , became Director General of DEFA. After the turning point and the peaceful revolution in the GDR , DEFA was privatized on July 1, 1990. Golde became managing director of DEFA Studio Babelsberg GmbH together with Bernhard Nowak . He was replaced in 1992, but remained a member of the management until 1995.

In 1996/97 Golde was a manager at Rudolf-Steiner-Film GmbH and, among other things, executive producer of the film Conversation with the Beast (director and leading role: Armin Mueller-Stahl ).

Golde lives in Potsdam.
