Gert Goolkate (born September 22, 1970 in Enschede ; nicknames: Harry , The Phenomenon ) is a Dutch football player who lives in Germany .
He is currently the player-coach at SV Alemannia Blanke Nordhorn, who is currently playing in the 1st district class in Bentheim . From 1996 to 2007 he played for Eintracht Nordhorn .
Goolkate became known nationwide when he scored the unusually high number of 44 goals in the Oberliga Nord in the 2004/05 season .
job
In addition to his work as a football player at SV Eintracht, Goolkate worked as a warehouse clerk in the textile wholesaling of Heinz Buscher, the then club president of Eintracht Nordhorn. After moving to SV Wietmarschen, he also changed jobs. He first worked for a civil engineering company and now for a mail order chair company as a warehouse clerk. He would like to stay in Nordhorn even after the end of his career as a football player because he “found his luck there”.
Career
Goolkate began his football career at Zuid Eschmarke and SV Vosta, two amateur clubs from his hometown of Enschede . Then he played for SG Burgsteinfurt.
He was discovered by SC Münster 08 at a tournament organized by the Dutch club UDI Enschede . There he played a good season and was then committed by the upper division Eintracht Nordhorn .
From 1996 to 2007 Goolkate played at Eintracht, which mostly competed in the major league and from 1997 to 2000 was represented in the Regionalliga Nord . Goolkate was in the seasons 2000/01, at that time in the Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen , and 2004/05 Oberliga top scorer.
From 2006 he coached a youth team of Eintracht and was also active as a supplementary player in the league team. For the 2007/08 season he moved to the neighboring SV Wietmarschen , who plays in the eight-class county league Grafschaft Bentheim and acted there for three years as a player-coach. In October 2011 Goolkate announced internally that he would resign from his coaching position at the end of the 2011/12 season. However, this decision was later reversed and his contract was extended for another year. During the winter break of the 2012/13 season, SV Wietmarschen announced that the contract would not be extended after the season. From 2013 to 2015 he was player-coach at the football club SV Klausheide in the 1st district class of the Grafschaft Bentheim, with whom he celebrated promotion to the district league and the victory of the district cup of Grafschaft Bentheim in 2015 . For the 2015/16 season he takes over SV Alemannia Blanke Nordhorn in the 2nd district class Bentheim as player-coach.
2004/05 season
In the 2004/05 season he was with 44 goals, which he scored in 32 missions, for the second time top scorer in the league. This hit balance was the highest value in one of the four highest German divisions since Günter Pröpper had scored 52 goals for Wuppertaler SV in what was then Regionalliga West 33 years earlier in the 1971/72 season . In the following season Goolkate wore a shirt with the number 44, and his hit rate earned him the nickname "The Phenomenon".
It should be noted that the coach at the time, Theo Vonk, no longer intended Goolkate, who was almost 34 years old at the start of the season, for the first team, but as a stand-by player. Goolkate should start in the youth area of the club. In the first game of the season against BV Cloppenburg , however, he was substituted on and decided the game single-handedly, whereupon he became a regular player and finally a goalscorer.
Goolkate himself explained his extraordinary hit rate with the fact that he ran less than in earlier times, but "correctly". The sports journalist Felix Meininghaus compared Goolkates “lanky movements” with those of his compatriot René Eijkelkamp , who played in the Bundesliga for Schalke 04 in the 1990s . He also wrote that Goolkate had qualities such as shrewdness, strong nerves and a nose for goal.
