Gert Kossatz

Gert Kossatz (born April 14, 1929 in Dresden ; † May 26, 2013 in Murnau am Staffelsee ) was a German engineer and university lecturer for wood and fiber technology.

Life

After graduating from high school, Gert Kossatz first completed an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker. After graduating in 1949, he studied industrial construction at the Technical University of Dresden and graduated in 1955 as a graduate engineer. From 1955 to 1960 he was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Wood and Fiber Technology at the Technical University of Dresden. In 1957 he completed his doctorate at the Faculty of Building and then worked as a department head at the Institute for Building Materials at the German Building Academy Berlin. He also worked as a consulting engineer for lightweight construction and building physics for the wood and building materials industry and wrote several specialist books and teaching letters on the subject of wood construction .

In 1969 he completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Dresden. In 1974 he became head of the Wilhelm Klauditz Institute in Braunschweig (Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research) and at the same time took over a professorship at the University of Karlsruhe . He was also at times an honorary professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig . In 1986 he was elected a member of the International Academy of Wood Science . On March 31, 1989, he left the institute and retired. On June 7, 1991 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
