Gert Riethmüller

Gert Riethmüller (* 1934 in Uder ) is a professor emeritus at the Institute for Immunology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Academic and professional career

Gert Riethmüller was born in Uder / Heiligenstadt in Eichsfeld (Thuringia). In 1951 he began studying medicine in Frankfurt. He continued it in Freiburg, Basel (Switzerland) and Jerusalem (Israel) and passed the state examination in medicine in 1961. This was followed by stays abroad from 1962 to 1964 (NATO scholarship for protein chemistry, Institute for Biochemistry, University of Vienna) and a "Volkswagen scholarship" in the USA at New York University (NYU). His training in internal medicine took place from 1965 to 1970 at the University of Tübingen. He completed his habilitation in Tübingen in 1971 and was director of the Institute for Immunology at the University of Munich from 1977. He was mainly concerned with the micrometastasis of tumors , i.e. the spread of individual malignant cancer cells and the development of therapeutically applicable antibodies in the field of immunological and neoplastic diseases.
