Gertrud Benker

Gertrud Benker (nee Schmittinger ; born November 20, 1925 in Landshut , Bavaria ) is a German writer .

Life

Gertrud Benker was born as the second child of Friederike Schmittinger from Munich and the architect Georg Schmittinger from Scheßlitz (Franconia) . Her brother Walther died in Russia in 1941 during World War II .

She grew up in Landshut and completed her elementary and high school education in 1944 with the Abitur. After work and military service , she studied German, history, geography, folklore and philosophy in Regensburg , Erlangen and Munich .

In 1950/51 she passed her state examination for higher education and in 1952 her pedagogical examination in Munich. In 1951 she received her doctorate in literature from Hans-Heinrich Borcherdt . In October 1951 she married Heinz Benker (1921-2000), composer and music teacher. She has two daughters with him. From 1952 to 1964 she lived in Regensburg and since 1964 in Munich.

Until 1990 she was editor-in-chief of the magazine Volkskunst published by Callwey Verlag Munich .

The Gastronomische Akademie Deutschlands e. V. awarded her the "Goldene Feder" in 1975 for her book "Der Gasthof" (1974, Callwey Verlag).

Dr. Gertrud Benker is an honorary member of the State College for Ceramics in Landshut.

In the Personal Encyclopedia Who is Who? (Schmidt-Roemhild), the German Who's Who , her short biography appeared in the 45th edition in 2006/2007.
