Gertrud Heinzelmann

Gertrud Heinzelmann (born June 17, 1914 in Wohlen ; † September 4, 1999 in Benglen, municipality of Fällanden ) was a Swiss lawyer and women's rights activist .

Life

Gertrud Heinzelmann attended the grammar school of the Höhere Töchterschule in Zurich . She studied law at the University of Zurich and received her doctorate in 1942. She then worked as a lawyer.

From 1956 to 1976 she was on the central board of the Swiss Association for Women's Suffrage , which she presided over in 1959/60. From 1963 to 1976 she was the head of the “ Office against arbitrary official and association arbitrariness ” in the Federation of Migros Cooperatives.

In 1962, with a petition to the Second Vatican Council , Heinzelmann demanded gender equality in the Roman Catholic Church and the ordination of women . In 1964 she founded the Interfeminas publishing house , which publishes writings on women's rights. In 1972 she was appointed to Synod 72 of the Diocese of Chur .

Gertrud Heinzelmann was awarded the Binet Fendt Prize in 1981 and the Ida Somazzi Prize in 1991 .

Gertrud Heinzelmann was honored by the Gesellschaft zu Fraumünster am Sechseläuten in 2001. Her memorial plaque was at Münzplatz 3.
