life and work

Barbara Kopp graduated from the Ringier School of Journalism in 1989/90 and completed her studies in German and history with a Master of Arts at the University of Zurich in 1992 . From 1990 to 2000 she worked as a journalist for print media and Swiss television . Her articles were published in the Tages-Anzeiger , in the Swiss Family , the Swiss Week , the Observer and the Weltwoche . She lives as a freelance author in Zurich and is a lecturer at the Swiss journalism school MAZ .

In her book Die Unbeirrbare (2003) she describes the life of the Catholic lawyer and women's rights activist Gertrud Heinzelmann , who, at the Second Vatican Council in 1962, called for church equality and the admission of women to the priesthood. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) wrote that it was “the multifaceted and extremely subtle portrait of an idiosyncratic and complex personality”. Barbara Kopp understood how to “do justice to Heinzelmann without losing the critical distance. Far from turning Heinzelmann into a Jeanne d'Arc of the Swiss women's movement. ”With the eighty-year-old Barbara Kopp shot the film portrait Pioneer by calling - the women's rights activist Gertrud Heinzelmann for Swiss television, which is broadcast on 3sat and at the Solothurn Film Festival 2001 was performed.

In 2013, Barbara Kopp's extensive biography about the Swiss media pioneer and writer Laure Wyss was published with the subtitle Passions of an Unadjusted . In three large chapters Lor , Wyss and I , Barbara Kopp has worked on the life of the single parent and combative Laure Wyss on the basis of numerous documents and interviews. The NZZ judged: “What she presents with her brilliantly written work is more than just a walk through the years of an important journalist and author. The fact that Barbara Kopp repeatedly divides the stages of this life into sharply contoured tableaus and skillfully stages them makes a significant contribution to the pleasure of reading. This results in snapshots of an era that has undergone enormous changes. ”The reviewer of the Tages-Anzeiger said:“ Barbara Kopp convincingly shows how Laure Wyss experienced and suffered the social and political development of Switzerland after the Second World War, but also helped to shape it. [...] When Barbara Kopp deals in detail with the private life of Laure Wyss, this always takes place with a view to the public work of the journalist, which was closely linked to the personal experiences of a woman of that time.
