Gertrud Koref-Stemmler muscle

Gertrud Koref-Musculus Stemmler (born November 4, 1889 in Aschaffenburg , † April 29, 1972 in Aarau ; authorized to reside in Aarau) was a painter.

One of her ancestors was the reformer Wolfgang Musculus .

She obtained her artistic training primarily in Stuttgart, where she studied at the Kgl. Academy of Fine Arts began, from 1915 she was in the painting class and in Adolf Hölzel's master studio . In 1920 she became a member of the Üecht group, in whose exhibition 2nd Autumn Show New Art she took part.

In 1917 she married the painter Hermann Stemmler (* 1893), who died in the war in 1918. In 1930 she married the physical chemist Fritz Koref and moved with him to Berlin. Since her husband was Jewish, she was banned from practicing her profession in 1935 by the Reich Chamber of Art. In 1939 the couple moved to Paris and in 1942 to Switzerland.
