Gertrude Ross Marks

Gertrude Ross Marks , born as Gertrude S. Rosenberg (born April 15, 1916 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ; † June 7, 1994 in Westwood , California , USA) was an American theater and film producer .

Gertrude Ross Marks was born in 1916 as the daughter of Hyman Leon Rosenberg and Bertha Rosenberg, b. Shorr was born in Chicago, where she and her two siblings first grew up. She later moved to Los Angeles and studied drama at UCLA . At the age of 23, she became executive director of the Hollywood Theater Alliance, which produced a political review called Meet the People . The play was a success, first ran for a year in Los Angeles and from December 1940 to May 1941 on Broadway. Then Marks produced another revue for the Hollywood Playhouse.

In 1941 she married the Chicago attorney Gerson Marks (1911-1993). He ran a practice in Beverly Hills and represented entertainment personalities such as Lenny Bruce and Norman Panama . The marriage resulted in two sons.

In the late 1950s, Gertrude Ross Marks founded a film production company. She produced Herbert Kline's documentary Walls of Fire (1971), the script of which her younger brother Arthur A. Ross was involved. The film portrayed important representatives of muralism such as David Alfaro Siqueiros , José Clemente Orozco and Diego Rivera . Gertrude Ross Marks received an Oscar nomination for this production . The film also won a 1973 Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary .

Marks died of a heart attack in Westwood at age 78. She was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery .
