The history workshop in Tübingen is a non-profit association for the promotion of intergenerational learning from history, especially that of Tübingen . The focus is on dealing with anti-Semitism and National Socialism in Tübingen up to the way we deal with these issues today . The city of Tübingen is the sponsor of the association, which has an office open to inquiries and an archive on the Jewish history of Tübingen.

In addition to the publication of various writings, the Tübingen History Workshop promotes the formation of working groups and organizes city ​​tours and other events .

The association was founded in 1984. One of its co-founders is the cultural scientist and historian Martin Ulmer , who is also a member of the association's board of directors, who does research in the archives of Southwest Germany for Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

After the history workshop initially dealt with the "traces of the first post-war years in Tübingen", the association began in 1988 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Reichspogromnacht with research for the 1995 book Destroyed Hopes. Paths of the Tübingen Jews . Since then, the association has developed numerous other activities related to the culture of remembrance, such as the production of the documentary Ways of the Tübingen Jews - A Search for Traces (D 1999-2004, 67 min.).

In 1998 the monument project group initiated an artistic competition for the design of the monument at the site of the former synagogue in Tübingen that was destroyed by the National Socialists, the Synagogue Square Tübingen monument . The establishment of a history trail is also one of the association's initiatives.

The association is a member of Alemannia Judaica and publishes in the magazine Gedenkstätten-Rundschau .
