The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule in Rodgau's district of Hainhausen is a cooperative comprehensive school in the Offenbach district in Hesse with around 782 students in grades 5 to 10. It cooperates with the upper level Claus-von-Stauffenberg-Schule in Rodgau-Dudenhofen . It was named after the Scholl siblings .

School history

The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule was inaugurated in 1965 as a central school (elementary and secondary school) for the community of Hainhausen, Weiskirchen and Rembrücken . In 1970 the support level was introduced (5th to 6th year). Two years later the expansion to include elementary, secondary and secondary schools. In 1976 the primary school was separated and the neighboring Münchhausen School was founded.

In 1994 the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule was converted into a cooperative comprehensive school (secondary school, secondary school and grammar school). In 1998 the school grounds were modernized for the first time and expanded with a natural science wing. In 2003 the school became a competence center for information technology (IT) and was given a musical focus through the establishment of music classes.

In 2004, the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule was converted into a cooperative comprehensive school and the level of support that was previously common at the school was replaced by school-type-related entrance classes. In 2005 the school celebrated its 40th anniversary. There was a festival week and anniversary concerts in cooperation with the Free Music School Rodgau, the Musikverein Weiskirchen and the BigBand of the GSS.

At the end of 2006, construction of the school kitchen and the cafeteria, which is shared with the primary school, began. In 2008 this building complex was inaugurated.

At the beginning of the 2009/2010 school year, so-called smart boards were installed in around 80% of the classrooms to enable interactive learning and working with new media. All specialist rooms are now equipped with smart boards. The school yard was completely renovated in the 2016/17 school year. The 5th grades have received "tons of games" for actively planning breaks.

cafeteria

Since April 7, 2008, pupils from Münchhausen (neighboring elementary school) and the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule have been able to have lunch in the new cafeteria. In addition to the usual sales during breaks, this should offer the students a pleasant opportunity to stay for their free periods, the time between the end of the lesson and the start of the study groups or until homework supervision. The menu is prepared fresh every day in the well-equipped kitchen, mostly with organic products. The cafeteria is operated by Lebenszimmer ESSwerk Offenbach , a non-profit organization that works with people with slight handicaps. The school authority has thus created the prerequisites for offering the GSS students a lunch menu. This became necessary due to the increased number of afternoon classes, especially for high school students (G8), because the students often had no opportunity to have a meal during their lunch break.

Bands

There are several good school bands at Geschwister-Scholl-Schule, including My Destruction , Look Times Apes and other small school bands. The bands rehearse in the afternoons after class in the rooms provided by the school under the supervision of music teachers. Some of the bands also perform outside of school events.

School social workers

The main tasks of the school social worker are to look after the games room, to settle disputes between students or to be the contact person for children and adolescents with school or private problems. He is also a consultant for parents with parenting problems and a coach for the Buddy Project.

Elective classes

As part of the compulsory lessons, the students are given an in-depth general education and comprehensive personal development. The compulsory elective lessons enable them to focus on their skills and inclinations. Cross-school learning takes place in the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule in physical education from grade 9 and in various working groups.

The school-internal work plans ensure through agreements with the secondary schools (upper secondary school and vocational grammar schools) that the final profile of the 9th grade of the grammar school branch corresponds to the entry profile of the 10th grade in the upper level. In order to guarantee this, a content-related and personal exchange takes place with the secondary schools.

Buddy project

The buddy project has existed at GSS since 2008. The pupils in grades 9 and 10 support the newly enrolled fifth graders and try to help them in their new school life. The “buddies” are always available for questions or problems and are happy to help in problematic situations. The break buddies have been around since spring 2010.

Cultural evening

The cultural evening takes place once every year. Various bands and groups perform at this school event. Teachers and students create an entertaining evening program together. At this cultural event, music engagement should be given priority. In addition, sporty dances and shows are presented. In some cases, acting is also offered.

Music classes - classes with a musical focus

Since the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule wants to appeal to students who are particularly interested in music, there have been music classes for a long time in which students in grades 5 and 6 have the opportunity to learn different musical instruments and practice musical compositions together in the classroom.

Since the 2007/2008 school year, there are pure wind classes, which are limited to the high school level. Flute , clarinet , trumpet , saxophone , trombone and tenor horn . The wind classes have instrumental lessons and orchestral rehearsals once a week . The music lessons are only for the fifth and sixth grades. After these two years the children can buy their instruments and join the big band.
