The Society for Bavarian Music History e.V. is a registered association based in Munich .
The purpose of the association is to research and document the musical past and present of those areas of Germany that have belonged to Bavaria since the beginning of the 20th century. It wants to record the preserved and widely scattered monuments of earlier Bavarian musical culture, take care of their preservation and make them accessible to music research and music practice.
The Society for Bavarian Music History was founded in 1957, the founding members were Thrasybulos Georgiades , Hans Halm, Oskar Kaul , August Scharnagl, Ernst Fritz Schmid , Hans Schmid, Bruno Stäblein , Otto Ursprung and Erich Valentin . In the following year she acquired the assets of the Society for the Publication of Monuments of Music in Bavaria, which was founded in 1899, and thus also the rights to the series of Monuments of Music in Bavaria , which it has published since then.
She is also responsible for the Hans-Leo-Haßler Complete Edition. The magazine Musik in Bayern appears annually. The Bavarian Musicians' Lexicon Online was created in collaboration with the Institute for Musicology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Bavarian State Library . On behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and the Arts , the Society for Bavarian Music History, supported by organ experts, is collecting the Bavarian organ database with the aim of recording and inventorising all organs in Bavaria.
