The association, based in Frankfurt am Main , has existed since February 12, 1977 and is a founding member of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS), which has existed since 1985 . According to its own information, the GfKl currently (2016) has around 200 members. It sees itself as a link and discussion forum for the departments dealing with problems and methods in data science, data analysis and classification .

aims

The aim of the GfKl is to promote methods of classification and data analysis in theory and application. The application of such procedures in the sciences, business and administration is an essential focus of the GfKl. The fields of application range from data sciences, information sciences, life sciences and genetic engineering, medicine, psychology and chemistry to law, sociology, archeology, geology, Linguistics , music analysis and librarianship.
