The striped scallop perch ( Pristolepis fasciata ) is a freshwater fish and one of six known representatives of the scallop perch (Pristolepididae). It occurs in the river basin of the Mekong and Mae Nam Chao Phraya , in the Mae Nam Mae Klong , on the Malay Peninsula , Sumatra and Kalimantan .
features
It reaches a maximum length of 20 cm and becomes sexually mature with a length of 7 to 8 cm. The body is compact, high and flattened on the sides. The mouth is narrow, small and only slightly protractile (can be pushed forward). There are two flat spikes on the gill cover . The lateral line is interrupted, the first part runs parallel and slightly below the back line to the middle of the soft-rayed part of the dorsal fin , the second on the midline of the caudal fin stalk. The fish are brownish or greenish to yellowish green in color, with a darker top and a lighter, mostly yellowish belly. There are 8 to 12 dark transverse bands on the sides of the body, which are particularly noticeable in younger fish. The pectoral fins are yellow, the other fins greenish. Below the eye, several dark lines run from the corner of the mouth to the gill cover.

ecology
The striped sawscale perch is found in slow-flowing and stagnant waters, in medium-sized rivers, lakes, ponds and swamps and is mainly found in the bank vegetation. In the Mekong area, it migrates to flooded fields during the rainy season and back to its home waters during the dry season. It feeds on thread algae, parts of plants, fruits, seeds, aquatic insects and small crustaceans .
