history

The first verifiable antler furniture was made in 1825 for a hunting lodge of Count Wilhelm zu Nassau near Wiesbaden. At the beginning of the 19th century, antler furniture was almost exclusively made to order in the manorial area for their hunting castles and country manors. From the middle of the 19th century they became more and more popular and found their way into middle-class households; later, antler furniture began to be mass-produced. So you can find u. a. in the main catalog from August Stukenbrok from 1912 or in the sales brochure from Adolf Schwartz, purveyor to the court in Hanover, from 1921 hunting furnishings and deer horn goods, such as rifle stands, antler lamps, antler frames, female chandeliers, etc.

But antler furniture was not only produced in Germany , but also in Austria , Bohemia and France . So are z. B. Heinrich Keitel or Rudolf Brix from Vienna known. The German manufacturers include HFC Rampendahl , P. Keutner, Madel & Sohn, Kurt Schicker. Antler furniture production came to an abrupt end in the late 1920s. From the time before and after the Second World War , only a few individual items are known.

At the end of the 20th century, the topic was taken up again primarily in Eastern European countries ( Czech Republic and Poland ), but also in Great Britain , Italy and the USA . In particular, seating furniture , lamps and other small pieces of furniture are mass-produced. However, the modern products do not achieve the quality and aesthetics of the historical exhibits by far .
