Ghoultown is an American music group from Texas founded in 1999 . The band's style mixes rough punk rock with elements from country and the music of classic spaghetti westerns , for example in the style of Ennio Morricone . The group itself describes their style of music as "Hellbilly-Rock" or "Hellbilly Horror Cowpunk" , as well as a mixture between Johnny Cash and Rob Zombie .

Career

Ghoultown was founded in 1999 by Lyle Steadham aka Count Lyle. He was previously active in the doom metal band Solitude Aeturnus and the horror punk group The Killcreeps . Even before the band was founded, he wrote some dark western- themed songs that didn't fit in with the band The Killcreeps at the time . After this has been resolved, a group with this orientation should follow. Lyrically, Ghoultown deals primarily with the Wild West with a dark horror theme (so-called Weird West ).

The band's first EP, Boots of Hell , was released in 1999 and the following year the band's first studio album, Tales from the Dead West , followed . If this was already received with goodwill on the part of the critics, the successors also met with approval. Fanzine Metal Coven praised the album Bury Them Deep with the words “If Django were into crisp punk'n'roll and if he were as quick on the fingerboard as he was on the trigger, then Ghoultown would definitely be the first band to do so he would audition. ”The group's music has been used in several films, including American Nightmare in 2002 and Headcheese in 2003 . For the EP Mistress of the Dark , released in 2009, Gris Grimly produced a music video for the title song of the disc, in which Cassandra Peterson starred in her popular role as Elvira.

At the beginning of 2010 the group embarked on an extensive tour through Europe for the first time, partly together with the German formation The Fright . They also made an appearance at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen . In 2015 a new studio album was announced for the first time under the title Ghosts of the Southern Son , as well as new material was presented. The group also announced the re-release of the album Life After Sundown as a 12 "vinyl record.
