Giacomo Babini

Giacomo Babini (born February 22, 1929 in Alfero , Province of Forlì-Cesena , Italy ) is Bishop Emeritus of Grosseto .

Life

Giacomo Babini received on 26 June 1953 by Pompeo Ghezzi the priesthood . In 1966 he became pastor at the Cathedral of Sansepolcro .

On July 25, 1987, Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tubunae in Mauretania and auxiliary bishop in Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro . The episcopal ordination donated him the bishop of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, Giovanni D'Ascenzi , on September 19 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Abele Conigli , Bishop of Teramo-Atri and Angelo Scapecchi , auxiliary bishop emeritus in Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro.

On December 7, 1991, John Paul II called him Bishop of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello and on July 13, 1996 appointed him Bishop of Grosseto. On November 17, 2001, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of health reasons. In 2010, Babini hit the headlines several times for criticizing homosexuality. It was particularly critical that he viewed homosexuality as a more serious offense than pedophilia.
