Giacomo Merculiano
Giacomo Merculiano (born September 29, 1859 in Naples , † November 1935 in Lille ) was an Italian-French sculptor and medalist .
Life
Merculiano studied at the Accademia di belle arti di Napoli . Here he exhibited his stucco statue Aspiration at the Esposizione Promotrice Napoli exhibition . In 1889 he showed his bronze statuette Canto fermo here . He also made a bronze bust of Count Giulio di Conversano, which was placed in the Camposanto di Napoli cemetery . From 1898 he lived in Paris, where he signed his works with Jacques Merculiano or J. Merculiano . From 1904 to 1914 he was based in Lille . He became a French citizen. From 1914 he exhibited at the Paris Salon.
In addition to Merculiano's attempts at painting, his main work was sculpture, where he mainly focused on depictions of animals in the Art Deco style . As a medalist, he made a prize medal in 1920 for the St. Hubertus du Nord dog club in Ostricourt . Some of his works were handcrafted and distributed by the Éditeur d'art (art publisher) and sculptor Jules Levi-Lehmann .
His brother Comingio Merculiano (1845–1915) worked as a draftsman and illustrator in Naples.
