Giacomo Neri (born January 1, 1916 in Faenza ; † May 6, 2010 ibid) was an Italian football player and coach .

Since there were several players with the surname Neri during his active time, he often appears in statistics as Neri II .

Career

Giacomo Neri began his career in his hometown with Faenza Calcio. After a season at Rimini Calcio , the right winger moved at the age of 17 for the 1933/34 season to Serie A promoted AS Livorno , with whom he relegated to Serie B in 1934/35 .

For the season 1936/37 Neri was obliged at the age of only 20 by Juventus Turin , for which he scored the 6,000th goal in the club's history. After only one year in Turin and fifth place in the table, he was dismissed from the team trained by Virginio Rosetta for disciplinary reasons and moved back to Livorno , where the Italian played in Serie A from 1937 to 1939.

From 1939 to 1946, interrupted by the Second World War , Giacomo Neri was under contract with CFC Genoa . During this time he also completed three international matches for Italy under Vittorio Pozzo . Two against Switzerland and one against Germany , where he scored his only international goal.

In 1946, the right winger was committed to Inter Milan , with whom he reached tenth and twelfth places in Serie A. In 1948 Neri moved to Pescara Calcio for two years and went straight to Serie C with the Abruzzo club . He then ended his professional career at Neuchâtel Xamax in Switzerland .

In his active career, Giacomo Neri completed a total of 216 Serie A games, in which he scored 53 goals.

Neri worked as a trainer in the 1950s. From 1951 to 1954 he was in charge of US Alessandria , with which he rose to Serie B.

Giacomo Neri died on May 6, 2010 at the age of 94 in his hometown of Faenza. Until his death, he was the oldest living national player in Italy.
