Giacomo Setaccioli

Giacomo Setaccioli (born December 8, 1868 in Corneto , † December 3, 1925 in Siena ) was an Italian composer and music teacher.

Setaccioli studied flute at the Liceo Musicale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and was a composition student of Cesare De Sanctis . After obtaining his diploma in 1893, he began his career as a composer.

His first opera, L'ultimo degli Abenceragi , caught the attention of tenor Roberto Stagno and soprano Gemma Bellincioni . She sang the leading role in the world premiere of his second opera La figlia di Mark in 1896. In 1898 he won first prize in the competition of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia with his concert overture . In 1903 he completed the opera Adriana Lecouvreur based on a libretto by Enrico Golisciani . This was not performed after the death of his sponsor Stagno (1897).

He then worked as a teacher at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and wrote music reviews. A fourth opera, Il mantellaccio, based on a libretto by Sem Benelli , remained unpublished. Several of his other compositions, including a symphony, have apparently been lost.
